Wooden Steel was formed with the intention of creating one of a kind, hand-crafted training tools for the serious martial arts community. Our owner was instilled at an early age with an appreciation for the beauty of hand crafted workmanship as an apprentice to a Master Potter. He later was given the same reverence for the martial arts by his first instructor in Tae Kwon Do /Hapkido. After spending 5 years training in Tae kwon do/Hapkido and 4 years in the Navy as well as brief tenures with various training partners our founder discovered Sanuces Ryu Jujitsu, founded by the legendary Dr. Moses Powell. The combination of disciplines is now combined in Wooden Steel's lines of Hand Crafted Hardwood Practice Weapons, as well as a line of Live Blades and Exotic Hardwood Weapon Replicas.

There are others who make hand crafted Bokken, sword, knife, and cane. While the others have good quality, they are usually very specialized. Our hope is to expand our products to encompass many different types and styles of weaponry.

We will also be bringing to you a wide variety of special deluxe customizations such as: various styles of inlays for handles; special staining; custom leather and wood tsuba; and handle wrapping, just to name a few. This is the first of our catalogs and will undergo changes as we develop our products and techniques.

We have begun work on a prototype for both a one piece and a two piece wooden Naginata as well as a two piece Naginata with a metal training blade.

Mr. Ritchie, our founder and Head craftsman, has been honored by his Sensei with nomination for Most dedicated practitioner for Sanuces Ryu Jujutsu and has been entered into the United States Martial Artist Association Hall of Fame as Most Dedicated Martial Artist of the Year, in Sanuces Ryu Jujitsu for 2006.
